Meet Karly
Karly Garcia graduated as a software engineer at ‘Universidad de Colima’ almost two years ago. She has worked as a full-stack developer using Javascript for the last couple years. She’s currently working as a backend developer with Nodejs at Wizeline and is part of the Javascript community in Guadalajara.
Tell me a bit about yourself.
I have a software engineering degree, I finished college two years ago and have been living in GDL since. I’m originally from Colima. I love sharing with others and am always learning new things.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
I love being part of the community, so I go to different meetups and tech events during the month. I also enjoy hanging out with my friends and am a board games super-fan. Sometimes I just stay at home to read or watch Netflix.
What were you doing before you started the trainee program?
I was working on a small startup as a full-stack developer. It was my first formal job and I learned a lot about web technologies. That’s where I started using Javascript and it is now one of my favorites languages.
“Eventually, I started to help and coach others who joined Wizeline and the project.”
What was your experience as a trainee? What did you work on?
I started working on a great project for onboarding. It was very interesting and I really enjoyed it. Eventually, I started to help and coach others who joined Wizeline and the project.
What was a typical day like as a Trainee? Walk me through your morning, afternoon, and evening while you were in the program.
Normally, I arrive at the office, set up my computer, and head to the kitchen for breakfast. After breakfast, I usually check my email and calendar. I attend the meetings I need to go to and reply to emails or calendar invites. After that, I start working on a ticket assigned to me or anything critical that needs to get done. Sometimes if there is any time available, I take a workshop or some training. If I have doubts about something technical, I go to my manager or another member of my project for help.
What was your favorite part of the program?
My favorite days were Fridays because I would present a demo for the whole company and it made me feel that my job here was valuable. I also enjoyed the feedback and having the opportunity to help others.
“I stayed because I learned so much in such a short amount of time. I also love the culture and believe I can do big things here.”
Why did you stay at Wizeline?
I stayed because I learned so much in such a short amount of time. I also love the culture and believe I can do big things here.
What advice would you give to someone who is considering applying to the program?
You can’t lose anything by trying. Give yourself a chance!
